Synesis IT receives BASIS National ICT Award 2020

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has awarded the Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform (CBVMP) of Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Electronic Tax Identification Number (E-TIN) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) projects both software developed by and managed through overall technical support and maintenance by the country’s renowned ICT organization Synesis IT for its pioneering role in the innovation of information technology.

The CBVMP project was awarded in the “Government and Citizen Service” category and the E-TIN project was awarded in the “Digital Government” category.

The various categories of projects have highlighted the vast potential of our IT sector. The selected projects were nominated for competition in the international arena, which also depicts the capabilities of the IT sector in Bangladesh.

The award was given to Synesis IT for its significant contribution to the country’s information and communication technology sector through the provision of biometric SIM registration and e-governance services.

Shohorab Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of the company, recently received the award from Abdullah H. Kafi. Chief Judge, BASIS National ICT Award 2020.

Using the CBVMP, digitization has been brought in every SIM card registration, national identity card, personal information, and photo verification as well as driving license and passport.

So far, more than 25 crore and 30 lac SIM cards of all mobile operators in the country have been registered under CBVMP. The total number of unique subscribers is more than 13 crores. In addition, on average, more than 1.2 lakh people register by CBVMP through various channels every day.

CBVMP has also been able to create a database of the maximum transactions of SIM data of each mobile operator. Which can register 500 data per second.

Congratulating Synesis IT, Shyam Sundar Sikder, Chairman, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), said, the example of customer service created by BTRC through biometric SIM registration in automated, accurate, and integrated management is being considered a model to the world.

The Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform (CBVMP) project adopted by BTRC has already won the World Summit on Information Society- WSIS Winner Award-2021 and the ITU Telecom Award Bangladesh Award 2019.

And this will be considered as international recognition of Digital Bangladesh and Bangladesh’s capabilities in information and communication technology.

This victory belongs to the young engineers of Bangladesh, and this project has been implemented by Synesis IT, a Bangladeshi IT service provider. And this showcases our national potential. Congratulations to our young engineer and Synesis IT, who implemented the project. We believe that the primary condition for building a digital Bangladesh is to enhance the capacity of domestic institutions, and it will help to ensure our national security.

Brig. Gen. Md. Nasim Parvez, ndc, afwc, psc, Director General of Systems and Services Division, BTRC said CBVMP is now a role model to the world, having already won the WSIS and ITU Telecom Awards for Best Project.

As the CBVMP project has been selected as the best project of BASIS this year, I would like to extend my sincere gree-TINgs to the concerned officials of BTRC, all the mobile phone operators, and the implementing agency Synesis IT. Through the CBVMP project, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has been able to provide SIMs to every citizen properly, as well as play an important role in reducing the threat of national security and criminal activities.

I would like to mention here that Bangladeshi companies have developed international quality software like CBVMP which is undoubtedly a matter of pride for us.

Meanwhile, the National Board of Revenue launched the first online-based e-TIN registration system in 2013 to create a tax-friendly environment. And this project is implemented by Synesis IT Limited. e-TIN is the only online certificate in the country that is acceptable for all government jobs.

e-TIN is one of the most successful financial technology-based initiatives adopted by the National Board of Revenue. It is the country’s first government-approved online automated digital certification platform and the first national identity card verification system to be integrated into this platform.

About 60 lac taxpayers have already completed e-TIN registration online. The e-TIN Helpdesk is also the first government initiative where people can ask for help using technology.

Through this helpdesk, the customer can call for any e-TIN related information/assistance. The helpdesk has so far assisted more than 6.5 lakh taxpayers in registering e-TIN.

This process has made the life of the taxpayer citizen much easier and saves valuable time.

Kazi Mohammad Ziaul Haque, the Senior Systems Analyst, National Board of Revenue (NBR), said, e-TIN was one of the most successful projects in the journey of digital NBR. Individual and institutional taxpayers can collect e-TIN certificates with online applications at home and this digital certificate is being accepted by all organizations, which is undoubtedly a landmark step.

Such projects are being done by domestic companies which can be considered as a successful step in creating a digital Bangladesh. Synesis IT’s technical expertise has been instrumental in the successful implementation of e-TIN activities.

Receiving the award, Shohorab Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director, Synesis IT, said, “We started the journey of Synesis IT in 2006 with a small staff.

Through talent, concentration, and hard work over the last 15 years, we have been able to bring Synesis IT to this stage today. We would like to thank BASIS for this recognition. Such recognition will encourage us to do better in the future. This project has been created with two completely domestic technology, manpower, and expertise. Through which service delivery has become easier.

At the same time, they are playing an important role in improving the quality of life of the people. Due to e-TIN, taxpayers are getting tax-related services easily. In addition, CBVMP is helping to ensure the security of consumer information as well as the social security aspect.
