The workshop was conducted from April 28- May 3. The mentors included Nilotpal Majumder. Sara Zaker, Tareq Ahmed, Mofidul Hoque, and Sourav Sarangi.
Out of 13 projects that were pitched, Sumon Delwar’s Jologuerilla ’71 won the first prize, a grant of Taka 5 lack for production. Biplob Sarkar’s The Forgotten Heroes won the second prize, Taka 3.5 lacks for research and development. Amina Akter’s Goal was awarded a certificate of merit.
The documentary Jologuerilla ’71 is an investigative journey of a naval commando freedom fighter and his personal struggle to retain his land.
Sumon Delwar had previously won the International Emerging Film Talent Association (IEFTA) award for his first feature length documentary My Sister My Friend. In 2019, his directed and produced short documentary The Passport that aired on NHK, Japan. He also participated in Docedge Kolkata in 2018, and in Dhaka Doclab in 2017. He recently worked as a producer for the Bangladesh part in a French documentary Teach Me If You Can produced by French production company Winds and directed by Emilie Therond Lagache. ♦
