Baltimore city declared a “code red extreme heat alert”.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said that city cooling centers were open Sunday.

Adams warned on social media that if you don’t have an air conditioning, don’t sit at home in the heat. It can be deadly.

Arlington County declared a heat advisory Sunday.

The temperature at Reagan National Airport reached 99. It breaking the previous record for the date of 98 reached twice in 1874 and 1988.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser extended the city’s heat emergency. He urged residents without air conditioning to seek relief in air-conditioned buildings and the city’s cooling centers.

Washington DC was bracing for the hottest day since August 15, 2016.

Mayor Bowser warned that extreme heat can have impacts on a person’s mental health. It may include increased irritability, aggression, depression, drug and alcohol use and even suicide.
